200th person to sign the Black Book is an avid antique collector

    200

The 200th person to sign the Black Book did so today.

It was a long time friend of mine Roy Adams and antique collector for even longer than our friendship.

Roy is a local celebrity famous for keeping doors, running and owning some of the most famous nightclubs on Merseyside from 1957 untill 1999 including the Kingsway and the world famous and legendary Cavern Club.

If you have ever met Roy you will know he is a character. He has a talent for art, loves antiques and has been a professional high diver and even an armature wrestler. He is an artist an author and is now writing his second book.
His first book "Hard Nights" is a fascinating read.

Roy has been very ill over the last year but after an intensive operation he is recovering and able to drive again and even find the time to sign the Black Book.

I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of the posters on sgb to wish Roy all the best and thank him for supplying the venues that most of us met our wives or husbands in.

The Adams family name Lives on in Southport with his sons.
The fabulous new hotel "THE VINCENT is owned by one of Roy's sons.

    All the best Roy

    from

I'm sorry to hear this kind of news--I don't think I knew Mr. Adams when I lived in Southport--unless he was the nightclub owner who drove a huge flashy American car--the only vehicle like it in town. I don't remember the name of the club/restaurant where my then husband and I ate dinner one night. It was upstairs, and on a side street off Lord Street--just don't remember, but the owner drove that big car--couldn't miss him. That was in 1957.

Best wishes to Mr. Adams--and Peace.

John, you have just been added to my "Bucket List": "Return to Southport, meet John Nolan and sign his Famous Black Book."

By the way--do you happen to know the name of the Roy Adams night club that I was referring to earlier? I don't think it was the Kingsway--could it have been the Ambassador? It was a very snooty, members only, club, down a side street.

I don't remember the Kingsway (my memory is as feeble as I am!)

And how is Mr. Adams doing now? Do you visit him?

    Hi,
He owned the Falcons Crest or Shorrocks Hill in Formby. He sold it to the Stanards, and then bought the Kingsway that was owned by Mr James.

Roy is not to well at this time. I spoke with his son, Paul's P.A. the other day and she said that Roy is now quite ill.
