Just because he is listed does not mean people will pay for his work.

Well it is worth a punt, I am sure I will get my money back, find a cheap glazed frame, and should be ok, just checking whether I should ask £50 once framed or £120...

I did not say this Vanny, what I asked is his works seem to make this figure NORMALLY, but taking into consideration this isn't one of his best pieces surely must be worth what I paid, and it is also quite a nice size...

Who drunk half of your wine, and made it half empty Vanny, lol. :L

I am surely going to be optimistic, because it is in my hands, if you possessed it don't tell me you wouldn't have the same enthusiasm...

If you ask £50 you will not get £120

Ask £120 and you may get £50

Just a hint on the business side.

No you fool, there is not much point asking £120 for a £50 painting, on th other hand asking £50 for a £120 painting is pretty silly, so just check what you think it is worth, it is like asking £2, 000 for a £1, 400 Grandfather clock, unless the buyer is a muppet, you will get the cold shoulder.

    Advanced

    This painting is awful
    No value at all.

    No you fool,

But saying that..... there is always some one out there who like it and thinks it is a bargain.

The problem is........... it is only you who thinks this.

you have to find a mate.

The antique business is all about 2 people liking the same item and agreeing on a price.

    Good luck

I agree. I didn't say anything when I read it at the time but my jaw dropped. I think Advanced is taking advantage of John's generosity on this site.

It is good that there is posting to keep the forum active but (I edited my last comment )

Right??? Sorry, what has this got to do with you?? Vanny is a cheeky chappy, and I am sure he will be the first to admit, if you dish it out, you have to take it.... LOL. Me & Vanny joke with each other, like muppet was deemed an offensive word, when ?? Mst of missed that day...

    Defnine muppet:

"Exhubing an air of confidence that is mutually exclusive to that of their accomplishments or ability."

I am sorry if you take offensive my the word muppet, but the world, I am afraid is a bit tougher, than the odd losse word...

How ?? I say please and thank you, and John should know how greatful I really am for his experise, I don't really hink you have the opinion to judge as you have only posted 9 times on the forum, not that, that is a bad thing, it is just, if you had been around for longer, I am sure it will become apparent I really do appreciate Vanny's comprehensive knowledge in the field of antiques, and his help and guidance...

I haven't posted on the forum but have been looking in everyday since I discovered it a few months back.

I find it is difficult to understand sometimes the intent behind written words on a forum. Perhaps you may have meant it as a joke but for those of us reading it, it comes across very disrespectful by calling John a fool and almost demanding him to check what it is worth.

I can understand your frustration sometimes but... As I said perhaps the intent was nothing like what has come across in the written words.

By the way, I wish I had something to say on the forum but still just in the early stages of learning.

This was the bit I find offensive

I've met John many times and consider him a friend, not a cash cow like you seem to do.

I don't post on this forum much because of you and your oppo. I post on the main forums have done for many years.

Just to clear up one thing... "So just check what it is worth" Meant I was just checking how much it is worth, not intructing Vanny to chck how much it is worth, I can see how this may have come across telling Vanny what to do...

You have had the privlidge to meet Vanny, and I am sure he is a pleasent and talkative character, but I have not had the privlidge yet, maybe when I do finally meet him, we can have a good old ching wag, but until that time, our conversations will be based on antiques, as this is an antiques forum I do believe.

OHHH! The hypercriticalness and irony of your natre is absurd.

You create an argument about how offensive terms are wrong, but then near the end of your paragraph, you call me a no mark and a chancer...

    Hardly a flipping compliement...
